See "Lady our queen" as she meets "Simba, the stud" in the cute fairytale video below. Lady is a brown F-4 Bengal, with beautiful two tone rosettes. Simba is a silver F-4 Bengal also with beautiful two toned rosettes.
The process to breed Lady wasn't a simple one. We found a stud that came from the same breeder that we purchased Lady from and proceeded to introduce the two of them once Lady went into heat but this didn't go as expected. Lady took the entire heat cycle to even warm up to her stud Simba so they never even got together on the first attempt. Four weeks later we tried again when Lady went back into heat again, but she still wasn't having it! So this time we kept Lady and Simba together until she went back into heat the third time an additional 4 weeks later, you know what they say "third times a charm" well it was in this instance. Below is a snap shot slideshow of the parents of our soon coming kittens. They are going to be beautiful!
It can be very nerve wracking, the whole mating thing and if you aren't aware of what is going on you may think that your cats are fighting at times instead of mating. For this reason I will include a video of Lady and Simba mating for those of you who may be trying to mate your cat or think they might have had an oops!!!
Here are a few cat mating facts to know:
1) Did you know that your female cat will not even ovulate until she mates, she ovulates ON DEMAND! they are called INDUCED OVULATORS , which means that ovulation does not take place without stimulation. Most of the time it takes more than one instance for her to actually conceive! Ovulation usually occurs within 20-50 hours after mating.
2) Did you know that a "Queen" can give birth to many kittens and each of them have a different father!! The little hussies!!
3) Did you know that when a female is in heat, she will signal her consent to the male with a unique posture: head down, front legs bent, her hind end raised with her tail held to the side of her body. She will also tread her rear legs rhythmically, as if walking in place and often make a chirping cry.
4) Did you know that the male cats which are called "Toms or Studs" have a barbed reproductive organ (much like a fish hook), which actually stimulates the female to ovulate, it is also painful upon withdrawal to the female, that is why after a successful mating the female will often growl and hiss.
5) Did you know that the pregnancy term from conception until birth for your little kitty is about 61 to 68 days.
